Our history
We were founded in 1948 by Italian migrants in Melbourne and have been a prominent institution in the Victorian soccer landscape for over 75 years.
Our history is in Melbourne’s migrant past and our establishment traced back to Agostino Francesco Galanti, a monk who served as a chaplain in the Italian army. Captured in Libya and sent to Victoria as a prisoner of war, Agostino remained here after his release and became part of the Italian community.
Agostino, together with Rino Fontana, a member of the earlier Savoia football team, shared a vision to create an inclusive environment that brought people together, fostered social connections and a sense of belonging. At a community meeting in 1948, Brunswick Juventus was born, named in honour of the great Turin club because of the name’s political neutrality.
Through years of football reform, we underwent many name changes. In 2022, we returned to our original name, and have continued to foster a sense of identity and community through football, emerging as one of the most popular and culturally diverse clubs in Victoria.
